Mycelium Landscape

Digital image, 2024

This photograph was a part of an assignment where we were to capture landscapes, portraits, and objects. When looking around at the landscapes I saw in front of me, I couldn’t help but be drawn in to the small details. Walking to class, I found this cluster of mushrooms growing off of a tree stump. The complexity of a mycelium network filled my mind— how can something so common be so mysterious and difficult to understand? These are not plants, nor are they animals. These creatures exist in their own world of decay. I categorize this as a landscape that I cannot live in, yet I can dwell on the complexity and beauty of.
