Heavy is the Hand that Makes the Obvious Metaphor
This piece is an ode to my love of Shakespeare and his views on death and mortality. The book shown in this photo is a real, tiny book of Shakespearean quotes about love. When in critique, I was told that the symbolism was “too obvious”, yet I was excited to hear that. I want this piece to do exactly what it says on the tin: This Is About Death and Literature— and I am inspired deeply about that. The use of something that I carry with me and a skull that houses the essence of who I am in one photo acts almost as an artist statement informing the rest of my oeuvre.
