Bringer of Peace

Skeletons are one of my favorite things to represent within my art, so when I got to choose the angle and impact of this still life, I wanted to create a story. While I was drawing this piece, I was listening to the Planets Suite by Holst, specifically Venus. Holst labeled Venus as “The Bringer of Peace”. To me, this seemed serendipitous with the subject of this drawing. Death is one of the universal blessings that brings peace to overactive bodies and minds— it is a time of rest and peace. I included a star within this piece not only because they are a popular motif within my work, but to represent spirit hovering above the physical body.
